Columbo Staring Peter Falk

As most of my friends know, I've always been a huge Columbo fan. I used to use my VCR recorder back in the 1970s to record episodes off the TV as they were aired. It is sometimes fun even watching the commercials from the 1970s. For episodes that I missed, I managed to buy several of them in VHS from someone in Japan. It was a long time before VHS and DVD copies of the Columbo series became available by the studios. I started buying individual seasons as they became available, and eventually purchased the entire series on DVD when that became available. So, I now have various combinations of VHS and DVD Columbo episode recordings. I also have a number of the Columbo books mentioned below.

This website was created a number of years ago. I updated it in September 2024 as many of the links and information had become outdated and many new books and other resources had become available since I first created this website.

10 great booze-fuelled Columbo moments

When it comes to casual boozing, Columbo was in a world of its own. In the 70s especially, the show was simply awash with booze. Every villain seemed to have a well-stocked bar within arm's reach at any time - and they all seemed to make ruddy good use of them, too. Click Here for more info.

This has been a controversial topic with some viewers. For probably at least the 40 years of my life I was never a hard liquor "spirits" drinker. I was more of a wine person. I think the first time I ever tried any whisky was when I saw an episode of Columbo where Glenfiddich Scotch was shown and mentioned as being a great Scotch. I'd love to find which Columbo episode that was, but haven't been able to do so. I did buy a bottle of it to try it. It was OK. I think I might still have that bottle. The biggest drinking episode of Columbo is probably "The Conspirators" where "Full's Irish Dew" is featured. As best as I can find, no such brand exists. The only Irish whiskey that contains the word "Dew" is "Tullamore D.E.W." and you can see the simalirity between "Tull" and "Full." I have tried Tullamore D.E.W. and it is pretty good.

Mrs. Columbo TV Series

You may be aware that a spin off from the Columbo TV series was produced called "Mrs. Columbo." Peter Falk expressed his disapproval of the spin-off, calling it a "bad idea" and "disgraceful". Richard Levinson later joked that if they made another episode of Columbo they would have Columbo say "There's a woman running around pretending to be my wife. She's changing things. She's a young girl. I wish my wife was like that. She's an impostor." The "Mrs. Columbo" series had poor ratings and after just one season and an off-screen divorse, the character's name was changed from "Kate Columbo" to "Kate Callahan" and the series renamed to "Kate Loves a Mystery." The changes didn't help ratings and it was cancelled after the second season. Click Here for more information.
